Crashes with gstreamer backend

I realize most people here aren't very enthused about Gst becoming the
backend of choice for phonon, but it is happening, and will be shipped
by default with the next Kubuntu. I've built it from git at Harald's
request, and got an instant crash when I pressed play after
successfully building and changing backends. Also at his request, I
issued the following commands before starting up Amarok:
export PHONON_PULSEAUDIO_DEBUG=5
export PHONON_VLC_DEBUG=5
export PHONON_GST_DEBUG=5
export PHONON_XINE_DEBUG=5
export PHONON_DEBUG=5
and posted the relevant part of the output in the bug. Once I added
gstreamer-extras and gstreamer-ugly-multiverse to the gst-good package
I already had, I can successfully play the mp3s in my playlist.
This is all in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=261356
Why the post to the list: to ask why I got no popup telling me I
needed more codecs. I though kubuntu-restricted-extras would cover me,
but they are not included. Another note to the Kubuntu devels about
this is next! But our users should be prompted to add codecs instead
of Amarok crashing.
All the best,
Valorie
