Well, this won't exactly be mind-bending feedback that they haven't
heard before, but:

Phonon does exist. We and many other projects are already using it.

How about instead of reinventing the wheel, they improve Phonon if it's
not meeting their needs -- since they pledged to be using Phonon and to
keep developing it nary two years ago and haven't made any public
details about problems they have with it. The way they're doing things
now is a disaster (marketing as well as otherwise) for both them and KDE.
