I agree with the auzzie ;-)

The rule is: You use "an" when the following word begins with a vowel *sound.*

So,
An Ayy-ch TML page was received. Expected an Arr-SS 2.0 feed."

However, the second phrase is not a complete sentence. Also, do we
need this error? It doesn't really say much to someone who doesn't
know what RSS/HTML are.
I suggest:
"Expected an RSS 2.0 feed, but an HTML page was received. Did you
enter the correct URL?"
