debugging mysqle -- anyone had success?

Also, it turns out my my.cnf is a 0-byte file. And I get this:
jeff at macncheese:~/.kde/share/apps/amarok$ mysqld
- --default-storage-engine=MyISAM --datadir=`pwd`/mysqle
- --socket=`pwd`/sock --skip-grant-tables
