strange collection(scanner) behaviour

No problem, just scratching my own itch :)
BTW, I've fixed the bug with r878386 -- that is, <folder>s without
paths are disregarded.

The scanner freaks out on funny characters and skips the path because
of the check in CollectionScanner::writeElement(); I'm not really sure
what to do about it not to break it, though. Any ideas?
