It makes some sense, outside of the "dot" variable that is never used.
I like that it doesn't edit files, just changes how they are
displayed, with no confusing user options.

(It's actually for 1.4.3 it appears, but I doubt that'd matter much).

I think applying this to 1.4 would be a mistake since we don't have
the resources to test it much, but we should keep this technique in
mind for 2.0.
