Sure but if you can't find something which fits the artistic styles of
both platforms then you'll need individual icons.
It's not about being "cool enough" it's about being "integrated
enough". The current Amarok icon looks good but does not quite fit in
with the high gloss style of os x's dock icons. If you're okay with
making something that potentially sacrifices the look of the icon on
linux (with oxygen) I'm not.

Not the jaggies around the edge. Note the shadows provided by the
icon. Note the blue line which doesn't work well as a border because
of its artificiality.

An ideal icon would have just the wolf iconography against a
transparent background, or perhaps the wolf superimposed against
something resembling a moon (no border). Something like the latter
existed at some time but I believe people complained about it when
shrunk to 22x22, and demanded something simpler.
