This does not happen anymore with Maliit (tested on
basyskom-plasma-active-wetab-exopc-tablet-mer-testing-120913-1410.iso)

Selecting text is only possible when Maliit is closed, but when text is
selected and Maliit opens, you can delete or overwrite it.
