making the UI files QML is unecessary imho.
as you note all that's needed is the basic "list and select" features and the
basic Plasma NM plasmoid should provide that. the plasmoid's UI should be in
QML, yes, and it should be the same on the desktop as on the tablet.
the plasmoid itself could remain C++ with a QML UI.
that seems very achievable ...
streamlining the numerous dialogs that pop up in various cases would be a
rather nice development focus for the UI, both for desktop and tablet. that
does not require a QML port, however.
