This is a first version of the talk description and abstract.

i wanted it to be mostly a step by step guide how to write, so pretty
technical, but since would become very boring, with a little section as well
talking about guidelines (that are being developed on the wiki now) on what
makes an application active or not, technically and visually.

----
Title: Writing Plasma Active applications

Length: 30 minutes

Short:
The talk will talk about the status of the applications of Plasma Active, and
guide towards the steps in the creation of a mobile application for Plasma
Active using technologies as QML, the Plasma UI components and the KDE
libraries, strategies for porting desktop applications and future plans of
development.

Long Abstract:
There is a very large range of excellent applications written on top of the
KDE platform, the vast majority of them targeted to desktop devices.
Mobile devices have a different pattern of interaction, it means that most of
the desktop applications have an user interface that is unsuitable for mobile
devices, with medium or small screen resolutions and input method deeply
reliant on touch screens rather the traditional WIMP model.
However, most of the kde platform technology is not related to the desktop
itself and is in great part independent from any user interface, therefore is
of great value in building mobile applications.
The talk will cover the architecture of some of the applications shipped
alongside Plasma Active, and devine what makes an application an “Active
application” from both a technological perspective and a design one.
There will be a step by step guide in writing a new application using QML and
the Plasma UI components. The talk will also cover perspective for the future
and what is to be expected with the introduction of KDE Frameworks 5 and the
Plasma 2 framework as part of it.

Cheers,
Marco Martin
