well, we'd like to make a maliit UI that uses Plasma QML Components for the 
rendering. this may be an opportunity to also bridge kimpanel UI things into 
that?

i think it would be nice to have one solution set that we use across all 
devices. if we can take Maliit and extend it to our needs, e.g. with your 
fcitx, then we can offload effort to Maliit for other sorts of tasks we'll all 
win in terms of feature set + work loads
