            Bug ID: 456815
Summary: Extremely serious problem installing Fedora KDE Plasma
because of the default Wayland session enabled.
           Product: kde
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Fedora RPMs
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: major
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
          Reporter: corvurius at gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

In 2020 a decision was made to use Wayland by default in Fedora KDE Plasma,
arguing that most modern GPUs should work with it without any problems, however
I consider this a completely questionable move, as it still takes time for
Wayland in KDE Plasma to be brought to a point where they can be used on a
regular basis and without any problems at all. Another problem is that the use
of a default Wayland session in a live image of Fedora KDE Plasma leads to the
fact that the installation itself on some hardware (I have an old hardware with
a 700-series Nvidia graphics card, but you can still live) can be very
problematic or impossible because of violations of the desktop environment
itself. In my case, when I clicked on the application menu icon, it was as if a
poltergeist invaded my computer and began to create chaos on the screen. The
application icons were bouncing around and then later on the screen went gray
and everything froze. Further interaction was impossible. In the live image of
Fedora Workstation I do not see such problems and everything works as it should
and the installation took place without any problems.

I hope that KDE will make sure that the X11 session in Fedora KDE Plasma is
used in order to avoid any installation problems until the Wayland session for
KDE Plasma is brought to a sane state. And yes, I used Basic Graphic Mode,
which is what the official Fedora documentation advises for GPU problems, but
in my case it did not solve my problem.
