            Bug ID: 344222
Summary: A change to Open GL version fixed visual installation
                    issues
           Product: kde
           Version: 4.14.1
          Platform: Kubuntu Packages
                OS: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: grave
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
          Reporter: RSwartzy at msn.com

For some reason I could not get my screen to show correctly upon initial
installation. Fooled around forever just trying to get CLI and Desktop to work
properly. I did everything I knew how, messed with display settings if I
could get to them... It was really difficult just seeing what I was doing.
Using Zotac 610i-ITX K-E board which has NVidia 7050 graphics. I think setting
the intial install to the older OpenGL version is the fix. Would really like
to help with this issue so that next time I can boot into Xubuntu as I should.
This is a a major issue, makes this release largely unusable to anyone using
this hardware. Stops new users from even getting through basic installation.
I was very persistent and an amazing troubleshooter. Typing on the box now and
I have to say I'm a bit surprised I fixed it. I had given up once.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Installation
2. I haven't tried to change OpenGL settings for fear I will lose the
installation that I have. Very tough to get into the menu to switch it back if
it indeed reproduces the issue.
3.

Actual Results:
Graphically everything is whited out and scrolling over with a mouse or
pressing tab will reveal just enough to toy with it.

Expected Results:
Shown a desktop.

It seems that switching OpenGL from default to 1.2 got the desktop to be
visible. I had attempted other drastic measures and then painstakingly worked
to apply a new OpenGL setting without even hardly being able to see what I was
doing due to the lack of menu context showing up. It was basically invisible.
