Not really, but here's a few data points I can offer:

- We used to install *.protocol files to register us for irc:// URLs.
- These days we carry x-scheme-handler MIME type declarations for the above in
our .desktop file.
- We also have X-KDE-ServiceTypes=DBUS/InstantMessenger in the .desktop file.
- We implement the KIMProxy/KIMIface D-Bus interface, which is a remnant of a
KDE 3 system that I don't think ever really got ported to KDE 4.
