--- Comment #54 from Louis Muollo <1 at redoaks.name> ---
I use 2 systems, one with a Gforce 9500 and one with a GTX460. The Nouveau
driver failed to boot on the 460 box. An install of the latest driver from
NVidia's site solved this until the next kernel update, which causes plasma to
not load. I have the latest Nvidia driver in a directory in 'home'
and for every kernel update when the system stops before the splash screen
'alt-f2' gets me to a command prompt where I can reinstall the latest Nvidia
driver-now 2.95.20-and a reboot gets me to the desktop with all apps and games
running fine.
It seems every kernel needs its own install of the driver to use it correctly
just like Virtual Box which needs its module recompiled for each kernel.
