The only "problem", I think, is that you'll lose the new mime associations you
do, and that the icons cache will be created, every machine restart.

As your ext3 partition only mounts read-write with data=ordered, we can not
test the other options.

If you do not want to keep the tmpfs for /var/tmp... There is another option
for ext3 that could fix the problem.. (I forgot about it, and I'm using it), It
is the noatime option, that makes linux not to update last accesed/modification
time of a file.
