I should add that this used to work on earlier kde versions when I had the xine
backend. 
Also, I think (need to check, can't easily reboot the maching), it works when I
have the headset plugged in on bootup. 
In this case, the Headset got device number 0 and it sortof worked (had to
restart amarok when replugging to get sound for example), but at least it
halfway worked
