2 things...

I would like if the desktop search feature could also search for man pages, and
HOWTO's.. and also for it to use the 'locate' command.

and if the search box can be put on the main menu bar.

maybe if the search box had beside it a menu with checklist, the checklist with 
"programs, man pages, HOWTO's, and 'Locate'"

then search in each one checked...

so if you select checked "Programs, Man pages, and Locate" a search sections 3
result areas with Programs that match, man pages that match, and the use of the
locate command for the search and what files it finds.
