I have a very similar setup and am experiencing identical problems. Any attempt
to resize the konsole window with desktop effects active results in a freeze,
and "blinking" during resize (and after the inevitable freeze) is apparent.

Disabling all desktop effects allows resizing without freezing, but I'm getting
a black box drawn in the upper left corner of my primary monitor whenever I
resize it. Said black box is the same size and shape as the konsole window, and
grows as I increase the size of konsole.

I'm not an Arch Linux user, but they do have a bug report on this same issue
that suggests it's most commonly seen with a combination of KDE 4.6.x, a 2.6.38
kernel, and nvidia drivers from 270.30 up:

KDE 4.6.2 on Xorg 1.10
Kernel 2.6.38
Nvidia driver: 270.41.03 (also occurred with 270.30)
card: GeForce 9500GT in a Twinview setup (1680x1050 + 1280x1024)
