The issue seems solved for me after the upgrade from 4.3 to 4.4.2. Initial
memory usage is up from about 39 to 64 MB, but it has stayed there for about a
week.

Dell Latitude D630 with NVidia Quadro NVS 135M
OpenSUSE 11.1 with KDE Factory 4.4.2
Desktop compositing enabled
