same problem here. it takes about 1-2 minutes from kdm to a reactive system.
disk activity is high, of course, it's loading a lot of libraries. but
should/must kde load all/so many libs at startup?

archlinux: kde 4.3.1, qt 4.5.2, kernel 2.6.30.5
