(Offtopic: for future bug reports select 4.3.0/4.3.1 and choose your
distribution instead of selecting "Compiled sources", thanks)

- What is your GNU/Linux distribution ?
- Can you try to install the tango icon theme, and select it to check if the
icons also dissapear ?
- Is your kdesupport-icons/oxygen-icons package properly installed ?

Also, can you test this:
If you start, for example, Dolphin, at the first time, are the icons shown
properly ? - Are they "corrupted" in the same session ? (without restarting
dolphin) or do you have to close and start Dolphin again to notice the bug ?
