great source of confusion due to arbitrary usage:

he (likely) means: "probably ubuntu's fault" (though i thought the known issues
focus on intel & uxa/exa)

how's speed on the xrender backend (only kwin) and what's the (uncomposited)
glxgears output?
does /var/log/Xorg.0.log contain (m)any "EE" "WW" notes? (e.g. due module
loading failures)
