Switching the iconset fixed it. 

The "Apperance" dialog in "System Setting" lets me choose from all iconsets in
/usr/share/icons, so I don't think that there is anything wrong with my KDE
installation. Maybe I should only be able to select valid / KDE4-compatible
ones?
