Another 'might be related, if not disregard' report:

On a newly installed PC with Debian Sid & KDE 4.3.4, I lose keyboard focus
about every hour. I suspect it has something to do with compositioning as this
happens when I use the _mouse_ to switch tasks via the task bar.

The alt-click trick works to remedy this.
