I updated from 4.3.4 where sound was working fine, to 4.4 beta1 in openSUSE
11.2 and no applications have sound anymore. If I log in as root, sound works
normally. I discovered that if I delete the sound card in YaST and reconfigure
it, sound will work for the current session. The problem reappears after a
logout or reboot. 

However, the volume sound test in YaST hardware config does produce sound. KMix
and alsamixer all show normal volume levels.
