@Mauro: try to get backtraces of the other applications that are crashing to
see if they are similar.
If the malloc check variable didn't modified the things, I'm starting to think
this is unrelated to KDE, and that you should try to install IceWM and use it
to launch this apps and check if they work properly or if they also crash
there.
