Summary: kde hangs during "setting up interprocess communication"
                    at start-up
           Product: kde
           Version: 3.5
          Platform: RedHat RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: crash
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
        ReportedBy: andreas.petzold at gmail.com

Version: (using KDE 3.5.10)
OS: Linux
Installed from: RedHat RPMs

I'm working on a RHEL4 clone with the KDE 3.5.10 rpms from kde-redhat
installed.

When I start a new KDE session either from gdm or via startx, the splash screen
comes up, but it doesn't advance any further then "Setting up interprocess
communication". Eventually, the splash screen will go away, leaving only a blue
background - that's it. I have to restart X to get out.

I've made an strace of the kde start-up:

Other users of 3.5.10 on RHEL4 have reported the same problem. On RHEL5 3.5.10
works-for-me (TM).

I've seen similar problems reported in the past like
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109843 but all the hints given didn't help
in my case.

Please let me know, what can I can do to help track this down.

Cheers,

Andreas
