Summary: X crashes while loading KDE or randomly
           Product: kde
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Compiled Sources
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: crash
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs at kde.org
        ReportedBy: effetti at gmail.com

Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

Hi, I've used to use KDE4 for a while, without any problem; then, maybe after
some upgrade (maybe the Linux kernel), it started to crash X while LOADING: so
I can't even start KDE4! I'm using GDM to load KDE4 (yes, I'm an Ubuntu user
and I've Gnome too...), and it act exactly in this way:
1. I select the type of session and enter my nick and password
2. it shows me the splash screen, telling me that KDE4 is correctly loading
3. when it has finished loading (filling the original splash screen with all
the icons) X simply crashes, while it should fade to the normal screen.

I've had the same problem since KDE 4.12 until the version that I've build
today using the kdesvn-build tool. However, today I've discovered that I can
make it start using KDM instead of GDM, but when in KDE, it can make X crash in
a lot of way, randomly, but I am sure of one way to reproduce it:
1. click on a combo box.
X does crash.

I know that it could be an X problem, but I can't explain myself why it was
working before... I didn't change anything in it... I've also tried disabling
the Composite extension, but it still doesn't work. I've also tried checking
the /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but I can't see any error... Please, suggest me what
to do! Ask me to do something, if you want...

Riccardo
