My tests:

1)gphoto2 --auto-detect 

marek at magellan:~$ gphoto2 --auto-detect
Model                          Port
----------------------------------------------------------
Canon PowerShot A570 IS (PTP mode) usb:
Canon PowerShot A570 IS (PTP mode) usb:001,004






this works fine


2)gphoto2 -L

*** Błąd ***  
Wystąpił błąd w bibliotece io ('Nie udało się zablokować urządzenia'):
Aparat jest już w użyciu.
*** Błąd (-60: 'Nie udało się zablokować urządzenia') ***

it means:

Error: 

Occured an error in io library. Locking device it is not possible. Camera
already in use...
