Summary: Can connect to encrypted wireless network but non-
                    encrypted network.
           Product: kde
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: unassigned-bugs kde org
        ReportedBy: isleshocky77 sowebdesigns com
Version: 4.1.0 (using KDE 4.1.0)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Currently KNetworkManager has all the information about wireless card correct and will detect all available wireless networks. When I try to connect to a network which has WEP encryption it works perfectly. However, when I try to connect to an open network (one without) encryption it fails every time at 57% at the stage for ip address.
If you're wondering about the use of open wireless network this is not for stealing wifi from a neighbor. I was at a friend's house who wanted un-encrypted for ease of use but was allowing me to use his network. The same goes for if I'm at a place like Panera bread, McDonald's, hotels, or even JFK International airport all of which do not use encryption and have open and free wifi.
I'm not sure what information should be posted here so please let me know if you need any other versions or information.
Basically it's a brand new KUbuntu 8.04 install running KDE 4.1
Device: PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Vendor: Intel Corporation
