That has some similarities to a selection bug that keeps poppping up.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391614 It may be relelated. I haven't
been able to produce it yet, but I appreciate the steps you laid out. I
think that points me in the right direction

No, nothing changed in the HTML view that I can think of. I'm not even sure
where the default size would come from. I've been working on removing usage
of some deprecated elements, but nothing has touched the view area yet. The
text size difference is a puzzle.
