Hello everyone,

I am researcher at Tilburg University on among other things collective data governance (incl. data commons & data cooperatives), and have a background in political theory, history, science and technology studies (STS) and did a phd on open government and open data from a more anthropological perspective.

I initially joined primary to stay in contact with the world 'outside' of academia.

I am interested in a variety of questions, incl.

-what are good and progressive ways to govern/manage data (as collective, or in other forms)
-how best to understand data commons/collectives/cooperatives
-what is the good that is at stake when governing data collectively: data, or something else?
-what happened with polypoly? what can we learn from the project?

I am not exactly sure yet what I can and want to contribute, but I am more than happy to figure that out with you!

Cheers,

I studied Mathematics (Analytical Number Theory, in case
someone cares), worked with different companies providing software to
Insurance companies and am currently employed at an insurance company, so
by now I am an actuary.

I have been for a long time, at least since the Snowden revelations, been
involved with privacy, as I see the lack thereof as a major danger to our
societies. I do indeed have a degoogled smartphone, no whatsapp account and
own my own router. Well, I suspect none of the above is very special in
this mailing list, although usually people's eyes just go empty when you
say stuff like that.

I see great potential in this project. To really make a difference it is
crucial that users are provided control over their data while at the same
time can maintain their lazy stance ("I don't care as long as everything is
running, I just don't have the time.").

What can I contribute? Probably not a whole lot of code, but I'm still
willing to put my time into the project, which - if my dreams come true -
will require all kinds of support. So let's say I'm willing to supply my
brain, do as you like with it.

Next one up?

Helge
