i think you may want it in the API anyways; but a way to get around the text selection issue might be to either treat clicks in text areas as text selections (probably not great, esp for text heavy pages and fingers) or treat a press/click-hold-move as text selection. it's probably safe to say that if you don't start dragging after touching for .5 seconds (more? less?) that it is a text selection instead?

(what would be stupid cool is kinetic scrolling :)
