crashes in DesktopLayout

i've started getting a crash on-startup in DesktopLayout:

this code has become rather involved and has, still, no documentation for it. 
it makes me grow concerned. =)

i don't have time today (or probably for the rest of the week as i'm on the 
road) to debug this, and i'd appreciate it if you could look into it. my 
plasma-appletsrc which caused the problem in the first place is attached.

it looks like at some point in starting up with that configuration, there are 
entries in itemSpace.m_groups that aren't actually initialized perhaps?
