Summary: krunner usability: tabbing from search term to results
should highlight individual results
Product: krunner
Version: unspecified
Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: panel-devel kde org
ReportedBy: james.ellis gmail com
Version: (using KDE 4.0.1)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
I like the krunner, finding and running apps this way is much faster than that menu :) In fact, when I use 3.5 now and then, it's the first thing I look for :(
...It lacks a bit, though, in using the keyboard to launch a program.
Currently, typing in "Kons" (as an example), I get 3 results about Konsole - which is all good and correct. Hit the tab key and the focus moves to the search results box. To launch an app suggested, I have to then use the cursor keys to navigate the list and then hit enter to launch the app. In between that I have to close the drop down that auto appears filled with previous suggestions.
For a keyboard based app, krunner places a lot of emphasis on use of the mouse to finish off what is started with a keyboard.
Summary:
* type in suggestion
* close the drop down of previous suggestions by mouse clicking outside of it (it covers the apps found by my search)
* hit tab
* hit up/down arrow to find app
* hit enter to launch app
What would be better, bit like tab bash completion:
* type in suggestion
* hit tab, tab, tab until you get to the correct app listed. First tab hit hides the dropdown of previous suggestions.
* hit enter to launch app
