            Bug ID: 480821
Summary: Make annotations easier to delete
    Classification: Applications
           Product: okular
           Version: 23.08.1
          Platform: Ubuntu
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: okular-devel at kde.org
          Reporter: steve at kelem.net
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
Creating an annotation is easy. The steps needed to delete an annotation is
convoluted and not intuitive.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create an annotation.
2. Realize you really didn't want to create an annotation.
3. Try to figure out how to undo what you just did, or figure out how to delete
it.

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Right-clicking on the annotation doesn't bring up a menu with Delete as one
of the options.
2. Creating a popup, then clicking the [x] button doesn't delete the popup, it
just closes the popup.
3. There doesn't seem to be a menu item to delete the popup.

EXPECTED RESULT
The user mechanism to delete the popup should be as close to the popup as
possible. The farther the mechanism is from the popup, the less likely it is
that a user will find it.
1. Somewhere on the popup
1a. Right-click on the popup to get a menu is the closest to the popup, and
should work whether the popup is open or closed.
1b. The [x] in the popup should delete the popup. A "minimize" button [_]
should close it. This is the mechanism on Windows and Linux.
1c. Farther away is the Top Bar's menus. It's less obvious to look in the
menus... would it be under Edit? View? Tools? Not obvious where to look.
1d. The least obvious place to look is in the left sidebar. There are tabs for
Thumbnails, Annotations. Bookmarks, and Outline. It turns out the delete
command is squirreled away under Annotations, then right-click on the
annotation, and then select Delete. This also changes whatever view was already
in the left sidebar. It takes another mental distraction from your real task to
try to remember what the previous left sidebar was.

Make it easier on your users. A right-click, Delete on the popup is right where
the user's attention is focused. It doesn't distract from what s/he was doing,
as 1c and 1d would. 1b should also be implemented because users already expect
that on their windows. Don't distract them from their main task, which is
reviewing and annotating their PDF.
