macOS Monterey problem running Okular

I have a problem with getting Okular up and running on a Mac with macOS 
Monterey 12.6.3. I have followed the instructions under 
https://ports.macports.org/port/okular/ 
<https://ports.macports.org/port/okular/> and have run updates and 
upgrades, still nothing works. Anyone any idea what could be the problem?

this was done as well https://www.macports.org/install.php 
<https://www.macports.org/install.php>

Okular is installed and can be seen in the "programmes" folder and in 
the dock but does not open, nor opens any pdf

Any ideas?
