I should add that I had used Okular as installed from flatpak:

$ flatpak list | grep okular
Okular  org.kde.okular  22.04.2 stable  system

I uninstalled Okular from flatpak, then installed via apt. This resolved the
issue.

The apt-installed version was 22.04.3.
