Write your LaTeX file using the 'multimedia' package, but compile it with
latex+dvitops+pstopdf.  Then use a (very) recent version of poppler and okular
to display.

Alternatively, use the 'movie15' package instead of 'multimedia' (plus again
recent poppler and okular).  Then autostart also works for files compiled with
pdflatex.
