I agree with the original report, that there is a behavioral bug to be "fixed". 

The problem is that *facing* pages means that the pages that are shown are
facing each other. And per default Okular shows the pages that are front- and
backside of a single page.

Either make "Center the first page" default. Or --- which is more in line with
the name "facing pages" --- ignore the "Center the first page" option for
facing pages and always show the first page on its own.

I vote for making "facing pages" ignore "Center the first page". I find this
the more logical choice because the other option in the same groupbox affects
only the "Overview" view mode. This way you can get the old "facing pages"
default by disabling "Center the fist page" and setting "Overview columns" to
2.
