I'd like to express my support for the proposal described in comment #5.

I'm a PhD student who has a ton of pdf files. I've been looking for a pdf reader that can annotate pdfs. Since I store the pdfs on a server and use Tellico to index them, when i view a pdf, I typically do it via fish (i.e., over ssh). Tellico copies the pdf to /tmp and prepends some garbage (pid, I think) to the filename. When I annotate a pdf, the XML file's documentInfo url tag points to /tmp and to a filename that will never exist again. It'd be great if rather than associating the annotations to filenames, okular could install associate XML files with PDFs based on hashes (e.g., sha-1, md5, etc.) of the PDF. This would allow me to view my annotations regardless of the particular (temporary) filename associated with a PDF.

Thanks,
Micah
