Hello folks,

Hey Christian

A big thank you from my side. The problem with most open source software is that you only get feedback when stuff isn't working. It's great to know that people actually like Nepomuk.
to make it short at the beginning: I just "call" to say thank you for your work!
As I answered Martin Graesslin in a forum thread at the german pro-linux.de site within a stinging discussion (?) about KDE SC and its quality, especially that one of the nepomuk framework, he asked me to translate my comment and post it here. So I try to accomplish his wish, although my english ist not the best :-D
As I have been in touch with semantic technologies for years now, my diploma thesis is based upon that issue and I personally appreciate the vision of a semantic desktop, I just wanna say, that all the bugs and crashes never disrupted me, but rather I accepted them to be part of the (long) way to accomplish the vision.

Further more I have to say, that I see and "feel" improvements all the time. I have never seen a blockade of resources for a long time now! Insofar I see the progress beeing made.

Compliment to all developers, who strives for users like me. You can not please every user, but after all a desktop environment is so complex these days, that most users never get in touch with many components I believe. And because Nepomuk does not disturb / stop the entire system anymore, I think a lot of troublemakers just complain about it, as they used to know about this and the do not change their minds as they should due to the current efforts and state. Stigmatization has always been (unfortunately) a part of human history - a software suite or a software community is no exception.

I know myself how frustrating angry and bitchy comments by "consumers" can be. I worked long time ago as an organizer of quite big events and those days the unsatisfied guests "screamed" louder than the pleased ones told compliments. The masses are anyway in a kind of neutral state.

After all: A BIG compliment for all the things and work you have done for me (so far)! I accept bugs and errors; as I am myself a software developer, I know how difficult it is to hold the balance between features and stabilization within a software. People how do not know about that and who are unsatisfied with KDE SC have the choice: They can easily switch to another free (or none free) desktop or they can spend more effort to help improving the current state.

I hope the translation is quite acurate and that I could show you, that there are users, who appreciate your work! The KDE Desktop has been a big part of my life since 1998 and I think it will be for(ever?) a long time. Hopefully I can give something back to your wonderfull comunity soon - for the moment just take my "words" and my gratefullness!
