I am experiencing the following problem using the KATE editor

In a bash script file I have the following sequence: <br>

The result is: <br>

<p>How can I disable this feature ? <br>
I am sure there must be a command to achieve this in KATE, but I
have been unable to find it. <br>
Needless to say, the same automatic changes happen with code
written in other languages, such a Python. <br>

Thanks very much in advance for your time,<br>
