[Ktechlab-devel] A random thought that made me smile (and another point in favour of GUI separation)

I've been thinking a lot lately about simulating this, that and the other
with tools like KTechLab. How nice it would be to have CAD-like features.
Then a thought hit me...

There are several projects out there right now, trying to bring quality CAD
to FOSS. Think how useful a KTechLab back-end, stripped of its GUI, could
be to such projects. Imagine a 3D CAD project with optoelectronic
components, linked into ICs or whatever. Now imagine that the program
rendering that has linked into the KTechLab back-end and made those
components work, implementing a little extra code of its own to create a
realistic simulation of optoelectronic components interacting in a 3D
setting.

It made me smile, so I thought maybe others here would like the thought.
