Fascinating video, thank you for putting it together.

I suspect what’s happening is that it’s showing you the next day’s transit. So showing 1:43 or such after the day’s meridian transit might be correct in a certain light although it’s certainly not what I would’ve expected the program to show. The fact that it shows what I’m guessing is the next day’s transit even _before_ the moon has crossed the meridian is definitely a bug.

The second bug is the moon jumping. There are a lot of sky map computation errors when the simulation clock is paused because the coordinates are not refreshed properly. I suspect this is one of those, where we are confusing J2000 and JNow positions. I have either pending or merged merge requests that _may_ fix this issue.

Regards

Akarsh

On Thu, Dec 5, 2024 at 05:21 Giovanni Ceribella <giovanniceribella@gmail.com> wrote:

Dear Jasem,

Thank you for the good news. It is great that kstars/ekos is
constantly being developed and that new functions are added with
each release.

Unfortunately, the basic planetarium UI and some of its functions
are still suffering from bugs which don't seem to get much
attention. As I didn't find any reference to it in the changelog
of 3.7.4, I took the liberty of posting a short unlisted video
demonstrating one of such bugs, that has been affecting my
installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XImXZ6OXNCs
.

As a professional astronomer that regularly uses kstars for work,
I would be grateful if you or the other developers could have a
look also in these less groundbreaking "features" of the program.

Thank you in advance,
Best regards,

Giovanni Ceribella
