BTW, FWIW, I started running again. It finished the first image and went
into its 3-minute-long (this time) star detection
on the sub that I described above as 'Major Problem'. I noticed that it was
using 3 or 4 CPUs at near 100% to do this.
I doubt that this was ever multi-threaded before. So, apparently, in
addition to the SEP library running in a separate thread,
the SEP library is also running multiple processes on its own. These both
seem like likely suspects for these memory issues.
