Barth, are you listening? Could you tell us what you are planning to fix?

I believe there are many issues there:
1) the .kst not being used correctly when reloading the file ("Reimund's bug")

I haven't looked at this. I presume this is related to storing configuration options in the kst file?

2) the -F switch not being implemented in kst 2.x yet (not really a bug, rather a missing feature). While we're at it, we may want to look at implementing more than one -F switch (-F1, -F2, etc), as explained in http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115662

I have committed the

    kst2 [-F <filename>] [-f <startframe>] [-n numframes] [-s <skip>] [-A] <kstfile>

file override usage. I have not added the idea of -F1 -F2, etc.

NOTE: the -F option opens a new datasource which may be of a completely different type, and so ignores any datasource configuration parameters that may have been stored in the kst file.

Then we also have the open discussion to label/margin suppression. If you (Barth) haven't started on the above issues yet, maybe it makes more sense for Peter to work on the reloading and -F issues, while you concentrate on the labels/margins, which needs a bit of discussion and some time to implement (datawizard option, location of the infos, and suppression of the labels instead of putting them inside the plot).

I sent out an email on this last night.

There are two ways to suppress labels:

1) in a shared axis box. This is the preferred way, as it also properly shares the tied axis, and makes sure all of the sizes and alignments are right. I should add this to the data wizard.

2) by manually suppressing axis. This is for manually creating plots where things aren't aligned, and you don't want to display the axis for some other reason, like they don't matter.

For (1), I think, by default, we still want to see the top label if you don't have a legend. You would manually turn off the label in plot->label. This is the current behavior.

For (2), I agree that the top label should be discarded. If you really want it, you should manually make a label. (2) a manual action, and so should be pretty un-clever.

NOTE: in my opinion, (2) is not intended as a way to decrease the size of the top margin when you don't have a top label. That should be done with its own interface, and should be a variable, not just on/off.
