I'm probably the 0.1%. 

I have my pictures in /afs/..../ which is network storage but much
slower than the local SSD. But I can access it from everywhere which
is a big plus. So for performance reasons I have symlinks back into my
SSD, even if that means to duplicate the thumbnails on several local
HD.
