Well, even though I was in favor of the "release early" thing, our 
development sprint changed my mind a bit. We have decided that the 4.0 
version will ship with the SQL backend, not the XML one, and the 
internal things in the codebase received quite a lot of changes. Even 
though I do use current trunk for my image DB (but still with XML), I'm 
not comfortable with asking users to run SVN (and once you've switched 
to the kde4 codebase AND used some new features like image stacking or 
rating etc, you can't go back to the kde3 version without losing this 
new information). It will just take some time :(.
